The story of one monkey’s decline in alcoholism

I saw this little guy in the trees when we were walking around the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. He was watching passing tourists like a hawk, so intently that it piqued my curiosity. I stayed to watch and here is how the events unfolded. When he spotted what he was looking for in the hands of a tourist below, he swooped down out of the trees and grabbed it: a bottle of hand sanitizer. Alcoholic, of course.

And the inevitable sad ending to this tale.

Don’t worry, he’s still alive. The monkeys in this park have developed this whole alcohol  procurement method to a fine art. And don’t be too judgmental either – I’m sure many of us have been in a similar state at some point in our lives!
